My Favortie Teaching Activity - 101 Ways

#053 Satellite Trails

Several years ago, when I took a Trainer Course, I got to lead this activity with the group. So of course it is my favorite. I began with a discussion of durable sufaces, and travel in heavily impacted areas versus pristine areas.

"Directions: First have the group walk shoulder to shoulder across the area that you have picked. Have them turn around and look to see if a discernible trail has been formed. Then have the group walk single file through the area to the start. Have them look back and see the impact that so few people have made. Follow the activity with a discussion of how to properly travel off-trail. Works well as an introduction to cumulatie impacts."

Do you have a favorite activity from the 101 Ways to Teach Leave No Trace?
