...... Camera! Action!

Last year I posted a blog about Earth Hour, a global event through which cities around the globe turned off their lights for an hour in the spirit of energy conservation. March 28th will mark the 2nd annual Earth Hour. See below for a letter from Earth Hour coordinators and how you can find out more information about your city's participation.

Dear Leave No Trace,

Due to your interest in sustainability and the environment, I wanted to contact you regarding Earth Hour 2009.

Last year, 2.7 million Chicagoland residents helped Chicago's iconic skyline and surrounding communities go dark for one hour - Earth Hour.

The Windy City returns as a flagship city for Earth Hour 2009 on March 28, when, from 8:30-9:30 p.m., households, organizations and businesses will turn off their lights and turn their attention towards the need for substantial, long-term action to raise awareness about energy efficiency and global climate change.

Earth Hour 2009 will be even larger than last year’s inaugural global event, as 200+ cities in 62 countries have already signed on to participate in what the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has said will be the “largest climate event in history.” A press release is attached.

In anticipation of the event this year, I encourage you to check out this short YouTube video of highlights from Earth Hour 2008, which includes some great shots of Chicago's participation:

I hope you will write about Earth Hour 2009 and help us raise awareness about this event.
