Do you ever reflect back on the educational courses or trainings you've participated in over the years? I've taken my share and often think about pieces of them in the most random of circumstances. Hanging out with my book group, a course I took on painting comes to mind because of the cover of the book. And not so random: while at my recent board meeting, a discussion of mission statements comes to mind from a course I took on non profit management. While enjoying the outdoors, however, I often reflect back to my Leave No Trace Master Educator Course that I took 12 years ago. I had some of the finest Leave No Trace trainers including the legendary Dell Smith and Rich Brame (who actually wasn't one of my instructors but who I learned so much regarding Leave No Trace). I often find myself asking the question: "What would Rich do?" when I come across a Leave No Trace "situation'" on the trail. Rich made a pretty strong impression on me with his Leave No Trace teachings and his own personal outdoor ethic. When I ask myself that question, I'm not necessarily looking for an answer - I just like to think about the situation through someone else's lens - in this case, Rich Brame. Is there someone you think about while on the trail that made a lasting impression on you? By the way - here's a picture of me on my Master course - with a nice frame pack, ready to go!
