Our Traveling Trainer Team East recently emailed us about 350.0rg, a grassroots organization dedicated to reducing climate change.
In fact, this Saturday, October 24th is the International Day of Climate Action, aimed at mobilizing people to commit to reducing their carbon footprint.
Why the number 350? According to the 350.org website, "it's what scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere." In other words, a concentration of CO2 at 350 parts per million (ppm) in the atmosphere would result in significant climate change.
To keep this number down, 350.org organizers and volunteers are encouraging citizens to take action and reduce their environmental footprint in relation to this number.
How can you do this? The website it full of ideas and/or initiatives in different countries and geographic regions, but here are a few:
- Walk 3.50 miles instead of driving that distance.
- Turn off your computer (and or other electronic devices) for 3.5 hours.
- Recycle 35.0 plastic bottles.
- Pledge to use alternative transportation 35 days/year.
Our Team East is planning to get 350 signatures on their BigFoot Challenge banner, of individuals pledging to take a Leave No Trace -related action.
