Yesterday, one of my co-workers sent me a report that I thought would interest many members of the Leave No Trace community. This report was written by a non-profit called the Outdoor Foundation, which aims to increase the number of people who use the outdoors.
You can find the entire report at: http://www.outdoorfoundation.org/research.participation.2008.html
The good news is that outdoor use increased during 2008. The bad news is that their was an 11% decline in outdoor participation by youth ages 6-17. The report notes that many youth 6-12 are introduced to the outdoors by family members, while youth 13-17 are often introduced to the outdoors by their friends.
Help change the downward trend of youth participation in outdoor activities by encouraging your kids and their friends to get outside as early and as often as possible!
