My Backyard: Creative support goes a long way.

We’re always thrilled to hear of the innovative ways our members, partners, and volunteers raise money for the Center.

Most recently, we’ve learned of a film festival hosted by Colorado State University’s Warner College of Natural Resources that will benefit the Center. The films will feature various adventure, humanitarian and sustainability themes and all proceeds from the event go to the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.

Additionally, we recently learned of a volunteer that created a Birthday Wish on Facebook to benefit Leave No Trace. She has set a goal to raise $370 for the Center, and from now until April 20, 2010, she will be asking her friends to donate as a birthday present.

The are innumerable ways to support the Center beyond membership. Got the creative itch to fund raise? Go for it! Your support of the Center helps fund new educational materials and initiatives, as well as scholarship and grant opportunities for communities nationwide. Thank you for your support!

Partnership Highlight: KEEN and Leave No Trace

KEEN’s Hybrid.Care steps into the International Community with Leave No Trace

For the sixth year, KEEN Footwear’s Hybrid.Care program has extended major support for Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics’ work to build community networks and state-by-state advocacy. KEEN signed on in 1995 to help build Leave No Trace’s State Advocate Program. Since, KEEN has not only supported the volunteer State Advocates but has played a primary role in Leave No Trace’s successful work to build communities of educators and activists around the country.

This year, KEEN not only extends support for community networks but is also helping Leave No Trace develop its first international pieces to support the Center’s growing need for global education. Thank you, KEEN.

Partnership Highlight: Crazy Creek Sells Commemorative Chair Benefiting Leave No Trace

To Recline or Not To Recline? That is the Question.

Longtime adventurer, Leave No Trace friend, and Crazy Creek founder Rob Hart died in February in a skiing accident near his home in Montana. Rob was a fixture in the high mountain Himalayan climbing community and led expeditions all over the world. His inspiration for Crazy Creek Chairs, over two decades ago, was simply to provide a warm, dry and comfortable place to put his butt on (in his own words).

Hart was a staunch supporter of the Leave No Trace program and his company supported the organization since the moment Leave No Trace, the organization, was formed in 1994. To honor him and his important role within the Leave No Trace program, his colleagues at Crazy Creek created the Special Addition “Chair Man” Leave No Trace Chair. The lightweight, comfortable chairs are being sold in our store with a percentage of proceeds benefiting Leave No Trace programs. To honor the launch of this program, we are giving a 20% discount on the chair through the end of September.

We greatly miss Rob’s lively, often hysterical, wry conversation and commentary, and are honored to continue our partnership with Crazy Creek in his memory and belief of Leave No Trace.

On Your Behalf

As if CLIF Bar, longtime Leave No Trace partner that is also infamous for great bars with a taste for social and environmental justice, weren’t generous enough.

Beyond their partnership of Leave No Trace and underwriting the carbon offsets for the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers, the CLIF Bar Family Foundation has just established a new program called “On Your Behalf”. The program benefits the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics as well as a selection of grassroots organizations. Here’s what they say about it:

“On Your Behalf grew out of the CLIF Bar Family Foundation's mission to increase exposure and provide essential funding for grassroots groups that we know and respect. The program reflects what we've learned over the years—while our friends love it when we make contributions in their names, they love it even more when they're able to choose a project that resonates deeply with their individual concerns.

On Your Behalf is a gift card program that allows gift card recipients to choose, from a group of 23 grassroots organizations, which nonprofit group(s) they would like to support. These organizations focus on a wide array of social concerns including environmental restoration and conservation, sustainable food systems and agriculture, youth programs, and public health. These groups have won our respect year after year by expanding our understanding of what a few people with innovative ideas, a lot of spirit, and a little help can accomplish.”
